Hiking Adventure in Beijing Xishan National Forest Park
Last week, I revisited a familiar hiking trail - starting from Xiangshan and traversing the Beijing Xishan National Forest Park. This route, which I have traveled many times before, always brings me new experiences and sensations. Today, I want to detail this journey to provide a reference for more outdoor enthusiasts.
Trip Overview
- Total Distance: Estimated to be 12-15 kilometers, an excellent route for both physical exercise and scenic enjoyment.
- Duration: The entire journey takes approximately 5-6 hours, depending on individual stamina and walking speed.
- Route Planning: Our adventure begins at Xiangshan Post Office, passing through Heroic Slope, Monkey Climb Descent, Nanmachang Reservoir, Ghost Laughing Rock, and concludes by exiting through Xishan Forest Park.
Equipment Suggestions
- Water Supply: Due to the extended journey, it is recommended to carry at least two bottles of water as a precautionary measure.
- Attire: It is advisable to wear long pants and long socks to prevent scratches and reduce the risk of insect bites.
Departure and Gathering
We gathered near Xiangshan Post Office around 9 am. The location is easily accessible by taking the subway to Xiangshan Station on the Xishan Line. From the post office, we set off along a small path to our right, passing through a tranquil village until we reached the foot of Xiangshan.
Hiking Experience
- Heroic Slope: This was our first challenge. Named for its steep incline and arduous climb, Heroic Slope lives up to its name. Every step requires caution and determination, but the sense of accomplishment at the top is unparalleled.
- Monkey Climb: After conquering Heroic Slope, we tackled Monkey Climb. This section is equally challenging, with winding mountain paths that seem to test our willpower and stamina.
- Nanmachang Reservoir and Ghost Laughing Rock: Although we didn't visit Nanmachang Reservoir this time, the scenery along the way was still breathtaking. Eventually, we reached the summit of Xishan - Ghost Laughing Rock. Standing here, one can overlook the entire city of Beijing, offering a magnificent view that instantly erases all fatigue.
Return Journey and Summary
Due to significant physical exertion, we chose a shorter route back, exiting directly through Xishan Forest Park. Despite feeling physically drained, the inner satisfaction and sense of accomplishment were immeasurable.
This hiking route, while challenging, offers breathtaking natural beauty and enjoyable challenges that make each walk a memorable experience. For outdoor enthusiasts, this is undoubtedly a hiking trail worth exploring.
